TEB strongly supports the current initiatives directed towards the certification of ethics boards in Canada. We believe that the adoption of the highest quality of ethical medical decision-making is at the core of patient interests in Canada.
TEB is convinced that the interests of patients and the participants in the Canadian clinical research community in both the academic and community settings must be served by well functioning, high quality ethics boards.
Central IRBs, like TEB, have been providing necessary reviews across Canada and are highly important to patients, community investigators and sponsors. Over sixty-five percent of all clinical research in Canada is done at the community level. Central IRBs provide the ethical foundation for these activities. Misguided efforts to restrict central IRB activities would have a disastrous effect on the Canadian research environment. |
